AquaPups Charlotte: Benefits of Swimming

As many of you know, and for those of you who haven’t heard, Independence Veterinary Clinic is excited to announce the opening of AquaPups Charlotte in the coming future! AquaPups is Charlotte’s very first swim club for dogs and is the area’s only indoor, inground veterinarian-owned, year-round swimming pool for dogs.

At AquaPups, your pup can partake in various swim memberships, private swim times, assisted swims, birthday parties, puppy swim school, and puppy socialization classes – the choices are endless! Because our swim club is indoors, it can be enjoyed in any season, in any type of weather, which ensures that your furry friends can get the exercise they need to stay healthy and young at heart. Why should you bring your pup for a day poolside?

Swimming is stimulating

When dogs are left alone for long periods of time, which most are while their humans are away at work, they tend to get bored and restless. Sure, your dog loves the playtime it gets with you, going for walks and playing fetch, but changing up play activities helps to keep your dog focused and happy. Swimming offers an entirely different experience from what dogs do on the daily, one that is exciting and new! Your pup will beg you to come back for more.

…And tiring!

We all either know a dog or have a dog that seems to be more like the Energizer Bunny than an actual dog. Finding effective ways to help these dogs burn energy can often seem like a hopeless task – even the longest of walks or steepest of hikes don’t do any good. However, swimming requires an immense amount of energy and because it’s an activity your dog likely isn’t used to, it will become that much more tired from its time spent doggy paddling around. You may even find your pup hits snooze on its alarm the following morning!

It cools them down, too!

Summers in the south are already hot, hot, hot. Now, imagine having all that hair on you that you can’t get rid of; summer just got even more hot! No matter the temperature outside, dogs still want to have fun but we also want to protect them from overheating. That’s what makes swimming such a perfect exercise activity for pups, they can play all they want and never have to worry about overheating in the nice and cold water. It’s a win win!
