DOG-FRIENDLY IN THE QUEEN CITY!

We love that Charlotte is known for being an especially dog-friendly city. Whether you are unwinding after work or relaxing over the weekend, we have compiled a few FUN, dog-friendly, activities to do with your pup!

BEFORE YOU GO

Prior to setting out on an adventure with your pup, consider the following tips:

  • Start small (if this is your pup’s first adventure, try not to expose him/her to large crowds and lots of noise)
  • Bring along a dog bowl for water
  • Ask the venue if there is an area with shade (especially in the summer)
  • If it’s too hot for you, it’s way too hot for your pup (consider going out in the earlier part of the day or evening)
  • Check to see if there are restrictions on certain breeds
  • If dining out, or visiting a local brewery, consider taking your pup for a long walk first (we don’t want them restless)
  • Regardless of the activity, keep your pup close
  • Bring treats and/or toys to keep them occupied
  • Make sure vaccinations are up to date (keep unvaccinated puppies at home)
  • Pay attention to your dog’s behavior (if you sense they are annoyed, scared, and/or excessively panting, it’s best to remove them from the situation)

BREWERIES

Want to enjoy a local, craft beer with your fur baby? Well, only water for them. Most Charlotte breweries are known for their dog-friendly outdoor spaces.

In fact, you have probably stepped over a pup or two while visiting a Queen City brewery.

Bring Fido and enjoy a cold one at any of these local watering holes:

In addition, there are actual bars built around pet owners! Dogs can run off-leash in a contained area, as you enjoy hanging out with your friends. Can you imagine?

PATIO-FRIENDLY RESTAURANTS

What about a pet-friendly dining experience in Charlotte? Here’s a list of restaurants with a place for Fido on the patio:

Charlotte’s newest dining attractions, Optimist Hall and Camp North End are so worth an excursion with your pup!

SHOPPING

Shopping with your doggie! It’s a thing in Charlotte. Venture down the aisles of any of these pet-friendly shopping centers:

DOG PARKS

Off-leash adventures can include a day of play in one of the Queen City’s community dog parks. Each facility gives pups large areas to run and play off-leash:

  • William R. Davie Dog Park
  • Frazier Park
  • Canine Commons

PAWTY TIME

If you have a pup that loves the water, or just want to teach them how to do the doggie paddle, we got you! Aqua Pups Charlotte is the place to be.

Indoor swimming is available all year-round. Join them for private swim lessons, private swims, group swims and pawties! Memberships and gift cards are available!

EVENTS AND PLAYDATES

Be on the lookout for the next Bark in the Park! This is a dog-friendly event held each year at Truist Field. Enjoy some Charlotte Knight’s baseball, dog activities, hot dogs and socializing.

Venture out for a day of play at the U.S. National Whitewater Center. Keep your pup on a leash and enjoy the day walking a trail or enjoying a picnic in the middle of the whitewater action.

Plan a day trip to the mountains. Crowder’s Mountain is only a short distance away. Just be sure to observe the six-foot leash requirement.

Anne Springs Close Greenway will keep your pup amused with a vast amount of trail space and areas to swim.

MEETUPS

Want to expand your pet’s social circle? Try meetup.com. Make friends with other dog loving pawrents.

Find local Facebook groups planning doggie adventures in your area. These are both great ways for pups and pawrents to socialize!
